No theme is more difficult or pronounced in Resurrecting Randi than the question of “Is life worthwhile?” and the corresponding contemplation of suicide. Both primary characters, Travis Harrison and Layla Sommers, have at some point attempted suicide, and they openly discuss the meaning of life. In fact, the final scene in the novel forces the reader to make a value judgment about these difficult issues. The AFSP is one of many great organizations that provide help for those wrestling with such difficult issues, as well as advice for their families and friends. (www.afsp.org )

National Disaster Search Dog Foundation
In Resurrecting Randi, Travis Harrison has rescued numerous stray dogs, strays that he has promised to find homes for, but cannot bring himself to let go of. It is a sad moment that reflects on the dignity of an otherwise flawed man, when circumstances force him to give them up. The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation not only trains dogs to find humans beneath the rubble of natural disasters and terrorism, but deeply respects the dignity of the animals. All canine candidates for training are rescued from shelters, and all are guaranteed lifetime care–even the vast majority who don’t make it through the rigorous training program.
